How to Make an Interior Design Portfolio?

Crucial to success for any interior designer is a professional portfolio. This portfolio provides a client or potential employer a look at your credentials, vision and actual work. Not only does the portfolio display your talents and style, it shows your ability to organize, present yourself and your work. A thorough and representative portfolio helps you establish new clients and show the range of your work to potential employers. Create a well-organized and professional interior design portfolio to put your best foot forward. Read ideas and tips given below to create impressive interior designer portfolio.

Tips to Make a Portfolio for Interior Design

1. Compile a thorough and up-to-date resume for your interior design portfolio. Your resume should show your accomplishments, education and certification, as well as any awards you may have won. Include your professional work experience, memberships in design organizations and other relevant information. Do not include false information or unprofessional credentials like high school awards or unrelated data. Don’t forget to include your contact information.

2. Create a statement of purpose or vision that briefly defines who you are as a designer. Depending on your style, you could compile this as an essay or a statement of principles, focusing on what your strengths or specialties are. Keep it under a page, but make it count, as this statement expresses what you’re passionate about to potential interior design clients.

3. Include a variety of photos, designs and sketches that show your ideas, style or former design projects. Photos or drawings should be high-resolution and professional, showing your concepts in theory or practice. While multiple images of one project is fine, vary your line-up to show your work from different angles. Versatility is key, even if you specialize in one type of design.

4. Lay out the portfolio carefully, leaving space between pictures or compiling them so they are pleasing to the eye. Your interior designing portfolio should represent you as a designer; don’t slap it together haphazardly. Start with your strongest work to grab attention quickly. Insert a table of contents at the beginning of the portfolio to make it easier to navigate.

5. Compile all your information into a book format. Handmade portfolios are unprofessional, so work with publishing software to create a professional and finished printed product. Create an easy-to-navigate digital copy that you can send to clients or show online.
